To highlight its 60 years of important roles in promoting human rights and freedom of the press, Thailand Journalists Association (TJA) organized a charity golf tournament, where the winner get trophies from Thailand’s junta leader and unelected former military prime minister.
Pradit Ruangrit, the president of the TJA who now serves as a member of the junta’s National Reform Committee, announced on Monday that the TJA will organize a charity golf tournament to celebrate its 60th anniversary and to raise fund for building the new TJA’s office.
The biggest rewards of the tournament are trophies from Gen Prem Tinsulanonda, President of the Privy Council, former appointed PM and the key figure in the military network, and Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha, who staged the coup in May, who symbolise military regime which is the enemy of human rights and freedom of expression.
Despite the fact that the TJA has never voiced concerns for the political dissidents, lese majeste prisoners and anti-establishment media who were suppressed and arrested after coup d’état, Pradit stated that the TJA has played a vital role in fighting for human rights and freedom in the past 60 year.
Moreover, the golf tournament is supported by many of Thailand’s top conglomerates, such as Charoen Pokphand Food (CP), Siam Commercial Bank (SCB), and Singha Corporation.
