The police have arrested a woman for posting lèse majesté content and a false rumour about a double coup. The police claimed she is part of an overseas network to defame the king.
The military and police from the Technology Crime Suppression Division (TCSD) raided a house and arrested Chayapa C., 49, on Tuesday 23 May, after the police traced the root of the rumour and found that it was first posted on a Facebook account under her control.
The Facebook account was under the name “Chanisa B”.
According to Matichon Online, Chayapa admitted that she created the story of a double coup after receiving a photo of military tanks on the streets from a Line group. She posted the story and photo on 10 June and they were widely shared.
Because the police also found content defaming the monarchy on the Facebook account, the police accused her of violating Article 112 or the lèse majesté law and Article 14 of the Computer Crime Act (for importing illegal content into a computer system).
The police confiscated a laptop computer, tablet computer, video camera and mobile phone after searching her house in Mueang District, Samut Prakan.
At the press briefing on the arrest, the police said Chayapa was part of an overseas network to defame the monarchy.
The police said Chayapa was linked with Kritnai T., a red shirt supporter residing in Australia, and Manoon C., aka Anek San Fran, a renowned red shirt living in San Francisco.
After the briefing ended, the suspect fainted and was sent to hospital.
