A well-known politician from Pheu Thai Party accused of sedition for posting on Facebook about the missing 1932 Revolution Plaque has vowed to fight charge.
On 9 October 2017, the Criminal Court held a deposition hearing for Watana Muangsook, a politician from Pheu Thai Party, who was indicted for breaching Article 116 of of the Criminal Code, the sedition law, and the Computer Crime Act.
The Technology Crime Suppression Division (TCSD) accused him of posting false information on the internet in claiming that the 1932 Revolution plaque is a ‘national asset’ in order to call for people to demand its return, adding that the post might also incite chaos.
Part of Watana’s Facebook status posted on 17 April reads “Under Article 4 of the 1961 Ancient Monuments, Antiques, Objects of Art and National Museums Act, the plaque is considered a national heritage.”
According to the police, Watana’s post could make people hate the government and could cause political instability.
At the hearing, Watana denied the accusation and vowed to fight the case.
The court has scheduled the preliminary hearing of the case at 9 am on 18 December 2017.
