Student activists gathering to hold symbolic protest by “handing out sandwiches” against the coup at Thammasat University on Sunday may face persecution by the military.
JS 100 Radio station reported that the deputy commissioner of the Royal Thai Police Pol Gen Somyos Phumpanmuang said he recognised the students’ faces at Thammasat protest, which takes place on Sunday without any disruption from the authorities, although amidst heavy security presence nearby and throughout Bangkok.
Pol Gen Somyos said since that the students were the same ones who carried out similar activity at Kasetsart University on Friday, he will forward the names and addresses of the student activists to the military for further persecution.
The Thai Student Center for Democracy, a network of student activist groups in Bangkok, gathered at Kasetsart University on Friday for a “picnic” before soldiers tried to stop a dozen of students from doing the activity. They later went outside the university and gave out sandwich to the public instead.
The student group last month organized a student-led, anti-coup protest at Thammasat University
