The National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) on Thursday releases activists from Prakaifire group, Chiang Mai University lecturer Kengkig Kitirianglarp and Prachatai journalist Tewarit Maneechay, after they reported themselves on Tuesday following the NCPO summons order.
One of the activist released said he was questioned about the controversial play “The wolf’s bride” which was performed and directed by Prakaifire Drama group at the October Remembrance Week last year at Thammasat University.
In November last year, the performers and the director of the play were pressed charged for offending the monarchy by at least 13 police stations after the royalists-led online campaign mobilise people to sue them.
However, the activists who participated in the controversial play were not summoned yet by the military, as the NCPO mistakenly summoned the wrong persons.
In October last year, the organisers of the October event were also summoned by the parliamentarian commission on monarchy protection to give information about the remembrance book and the stage performances.
The activists released had to sign conditional agreement that they would not participate or support any political movement, and must receive permission from the junta before leaving the country.
They were detained and interrogated at the Infantry Battalion at the 11th Military Circle in Bangkok.
